"School in Action" at Stream's Open Day |
Wednesday 2 May 2012: St Patrick's College Silverstream was a hive of activity today as prospective students and their parents attended the school's open day. It really was "School in Action" as parents and their sons wandered through the school while classes carried on as normal. All three sessions (8.30 am, 11.15 am and 2.00 pm) were well-attended, with the largest group here at 8.30am! Year 9 (3rd Form) students from across the classes were their guides, ably answering the many questions that arose. Amongst those guides were boarding students who could share their own experiences of boarding this year. The Rector, Mr Gerard Tully, welcomed visitors to the school and outlined the school's key focus areas: Belonging; Values; Excellence; and Self-management. Head Boy Aaron Conlon, a boarder since Year 9, spoke of "not having missed these five years for anything in the world". There was much interest in boarding as an option with the Director of Boarding, Mr Nick Tait, fielding many enquiries. Videos are available on Youtube of the following presentations (click on the words to go there): Rector's Welcome and School Philosophy; Head Boy's Experiences of Stream; and the Enrolment Process.

Cross Country in the Rain |
Wednesday 4 April 2012: A little rain could not dampen their enthusiasm as Year 9 and 10 students raced over the school's cross-country track. Set by Athletics Coach Mr Hugh Steel, the course hugged the boundaries of the school grounds, alongside the trees and past the stream. In the Year 10 race, Ryan Scaife and Zelius Venter raced neck and neck throughout with Ryan eventually pulling ahead to win in 10:15 minutes. Stream Sets Record on Way to Win in Dragon Boating |
Sunday 18 March 2012:Â St Patrick's College Silverstream are the top school team after their win in the Wellington Dragon Boating Competition on Sunday. Looking to retain the trophy they won in 2011, the team had worked hard under Coach Chris Fox and Sweep Baz Taniwha, with the coaching and hard work reflected in their winning time of 1:11.24, the fastest time recorded on the Wellington course this year. The team now heads to Auckland for the Auckland Regional Competition where they will be competing against the best of Auckland as well as the current national champions, Shirley Boys' High (Christchurch). Much appreciated financial support has come from PAK'nSAVE Upper Hutt. The development team also performed admirably, in winning the Petite Final, beating the much fancied Wellington College 1 Team by half a boat length. Thanks goes to Mike Cole for coaching the development team. Leading into the final the Silverstream team had not been tested, with clear wins in both heats giving the team the "favourite" tag. In the final, Scots College and Hutt International Boys' put Stream's dragon boaters under early pressure, but this could not be sustained, Silverstream soaking up the pressure to power away with 50 metres to go.

Streamers Celebrate St Patrick's Day |
Friday 16 March 2012: It may have been a day early, but it was a busy St Patrick's day for students at Stream. The life of St Patrick was celebrated with a liturgy in the chapel, including a drama by senior students. For the rest of the day students participated in a eclectic range of events, either as participants or "encouraging" spectators. All this was part of an inter-house competition for the Seamus Trophy, being presented for the first time. The last event of the day is the Paddy's Mile in which Year 13 students, in all manner of garb, race around the school grounds to find the fastest "Paddy". After eight events involving senior and junior teams, Trinity were presented with the Seamus Trophy, followed by Marist, Chanel and Patrick. A fantastic day was had by all.
