Old Boy, Father Tony O'Connor, visits from Venezuela
Thursday 25 February 2010: Fr Tony O'Connor SM (Head Prefect in 1967, and nephew of Fr Kevin O'Connor SM, former Rector) visited the College today. He has worked in Peru for 27 years, and in Venezuela for the last 2 years. He spoke to a number of classes gathered in the Chapel, and showed pictures of the school he is associated with in Valencia in Venezuela. This school caters for children from the surrounding shanty towns, and only admits those who come from the poorest and most disadvantaged families. The school is lacking many facilities compared with our College. They need funds to complete a classroom block that will enable more children to attend, and recreational facilities to keep the children interested. Education is the only chance they have to escape the drug trafficking and prostitution that surround them. The College will assist through our Lenten Fundraising programme.
