Tuesday 2 March 2010: It was a hard day for Stream at the McEvedy Shield today. With strong teams from all four schools it was always going to be tough, Stream eventually finishing third behind St Patrick's Town and Wellington College. Highlights from the day included: Fletcher Greaves winning the Under-14 100m and 400m, and Aviata Silago throwing 44 metres to win the Open Discus. In the Intermediate Javelin, Liam Higgins won with a personal best of 55 metres - five metres better than at Old Boys. In the Open High Jump, Aaron George was second with a personal best of 1.86m. More results will be posted Wednesday.
Thursday 25 February 2010: Fr Tony O'Connor SM (Head Prefect in 1967, and nephew of Fr Kevin O'Connor SM, former Rector) visited the College today. He has worked in Peru for 27 years, and in Venezuela for the last 2 years. He spoke to a number of classes gathered in the Chapel, and showed pictures of the school he is associated with in Valencia in Venezuela. This school caters for children from the surrounding shanty towns, and only admits those who come from the poorest and most disadvantaged families. The school is lacking many facilities compared with our College. They need funds to complete a classroom block that will enable more children to attend, and recreational facilities to keep the children interested. Education is the only chance they have to escape the drug trafficking and prostitution that surround them. The College will assist through our Lenten Fundraising programme.
Friday 19 February 2010: In glorious sunshine, the senior students competed in the second leg of the Inter-House Swimming Challenge. Outstanding performances in the Championship races came from three swimmers: in Year 11 Jared Green won breastroke, freestyle (30m & 100m), backstroke and butterfly; in Year 12 Tim Salita won breastroke, freestyle (100m), backstroke and butterfly; and in Year 13 James Irwin won breastroke, freestyle (30m & 100m), backstroke and butterfly. With both Jared and Tim in Chanel House, their 99 Championship points led Patrick to a total of 288 points for the Senior competition, followed by Patrick (221), Marist (193) and Trinity (187).  Combined with the Junior resuts from Thursday, the Inter-House Swimming Champions for 2010 are Chanel House.
Friday 19 February 2010: The first Mass of 2010 celebrated the newly-appointed School Leaders and Eucahristic Ministers in front of their families and the school community. In his welcoming comments Head Boy, James Scoon, expressed their mission as: To do what is Just; To show constant Love; and To live in Humble Fellowship with our God.  Father John Greally echoed these ideas as he talked of the Global Education students receive today and that, more than ever before, it is important that students have a centre of faith within themselves.Â
Thursday 18 February 2010: Stream's pool was awash today as Year 9 and 10 students competed in Part One of the Inter-House Swimming Challenge; Part Two, the Senior Competition, runs on Friday. With participation points up for grabs, every student was involved. In the Championship events there were some fiercely fought battles, especially in the Year 10 one-length breast-stroke between Lachlan Watson and Dominic Scahill - separated by just 0.1 seconds. At a House level, Marist were clear winners with 225 points, followed by Patrick (199), Chanel (197) and Trinity (175).
Wednesday 17 February 2010: To mark the start of the Lenten season, Ash Wednesday services were held separately for junior and senior students, where each student came forward to receive an ash cross on their forehead as a reminder of this time in Christ's life. Lent is a time for reflection, to remember the time when Jesus spent forty days and nights in the desert. Over the coming forty days, as a catholic community, we reflect on how we can help those who live in less fortunate circumstances and, to alleviate their economic suffering, we act as Jesus would have wished - through our annual Can Drive and supplying these to the broader community. And it is time for us to reflect inward, how can we ensure that we are living out those gospel values that Jesus taught us.
Tuesday 16 February 2010: With fantastic support from the whole school, the Old Boys' team performed strongly but it was not enough to wrest the cup from Town,  who ran out eventual winners 369-279. There were some outstanding individual performances from Stream athletes: Matt Pavitt (Team Captain) won by the home straight in both the senior 3000m and 1500m; Liam Higgins set personal bests in winning both the javelin (50.67m) and high jump (1.74m); and Aaron George and Jeremy Baron both jumped 1.82m in the senior high jump to take first and second respectively. The team now focuses on the McEvedy Shield in two weeks' time.
Wednesday evening 10 February 2010: The first House competition of the year was decided this evening at the Athletics Finals. With a large crowd of family and friends watching, athletes were also competing for places at next week's Old Boys' Cup. Final points were being tallied overnight. Amongst many strong performances, one stands out: Matt Pavitt in the 1500 metres set a school-record time of 4:12 carving 7 seconds off the previous record held by Corey Casey. The team for Old Boys' will be announced on Thursday.
